1. Vijay Iyer – Reimagining (Savoy)
   The best thing going in jazz these days is Vijay Iyer, and this is my favorite jazz record of the year.
2. Wilco – Kicking Television (Nonesuch)
   Featuring the wonderful Nels Cline.
3. Leo Parker – Let Me Tell You ‘Bout It (Bluenote)
   Nice reissue of a relatively unknown baritone sax star.
4. The Fall – Fall Heads Roll (Narnack)
   I love it, but I’m ridiculously biased, one of the cult.
5. Arizona Amp & Alternator – Arizona Amp & Alternator (Thrill Jockey)
   More fun from Howe Gelb and friends, includes his 190th recorded version of “Blue Marble Girl.”
6. The Atlantic Monthly, December 2005
   The December cover story by James Fallows on the state of the Iraqi army is a must read.
7. The Food Network
   I’m worried that I watch this channel, but then again, it’s hard not to enjoy the Iron Chefs!
8. Film Movement
   A great club for indie and foreign film lovers. Films that never make to theatres. www.filmmovement.com
9. James Salter – Light Years (Vintage, 1995)
   The best novel by one of our finest prose stylists.
10. Fela Kuti – Shuffering and Shmiling (Wrasse)
    You can find maybe 100 recordings from the legendary Fela. Is there even a bad one in the bunch? I don’t think so.
