New and recent releases plus one crucial reissue.
When that old folk song, “Hallelujah I’m A Bum” meets Bo Diddley(R.I.P) (and that ain’t no Johnny Otis whistlin’ “Willie and The Hand Jive”
I heard a Bo Diddley tribute on local college station KALX (and they played songs influenced by him, and hardley ANY Bo-Diddley. Ugh. That’s not what we need. We need more BO DIDDLEY (at least they played The Animals “The Story Of Bo Diddley” alongside “I Want Candy” and The Smiths policies (threatening to become law as so many elected officials remain ignorant of the political, democratic, stakes involved in this issue) is to contact www. savenetradio.org
New Releases
There have been a lot of worthwhile and interesting new releases lately, so I thought I’d list 10 of them here. Other than the absolutely brilliant new FUJIYA AND MIYAGI album and a few others that were covered in last week’s list as well (BRIAN WILSON as well as the AMY RIGBY/WRECKLESS ERIC disc), I haven’t had a chance to spend too much time with any of them yet, so these are more first or initial impressions than anything else. It’ll be interesting to see how much I’m liking each of these releases by the end of the year.

Shudder to Think
This week’s list is dedicated to SHUDDER TO THINK, who recently reunited almost a decade after their last album, came out. As a teenager, I was obsessed with them and in particular I gravitated towards their earlier material on Dischord Records. Here are 10 of my favorite songs of theirs along with the album or single they come from and some commentary. I know some readers will be disappointed that no songs from 1994’s Pony Express Record are included here. It’s not that I don’t like that record, but rather that I like the earlier period much more.

Releases both new and new to me…
The White Stripes
For over a decade now, the duo of JACK and MEG WHITE have been cranking out high-powered, lo-fi garage rock with country and blues-rock flourishes and along the way, they somehow became one of the biggest bands of this decade. I recently went back and listened THE WHITE STRIPES’ entire discography from their first album all the way up to last year’s Icky Thump. It’s interesting to note that of all the bands touted in the “garage rock revival” of the early ‘00s, they’ve fared the best and have consistently put out the best records. I think their music will be remembered fondly decades from now. In any case, here are 10 of my favorite songs of theirs and the respective album each song is on and some commentary on each track.
